Can Only the "Sorrowful Army" Win? — Reflections on the Documentary "The Sorrowful Army Shall Prevail"

“An arrogant army is bound to lose, while a sorrowful army is bound to win” — so the ancients said. However, whether an army is “arrogant” or “sorrowful” is judged from subjective consciousness. Whether one is a “sorrowful army” depends on the individual’s level of awareness. If one is already in a position that should be “sorrowful” but still holds an “arrogant” attitude, the “sorrowful army” may not necessarily win.

Therefore, when to be “sorrowful” requires a standard, which we must set to satisfy our own psychological expectations. Above this standard, one should be “arrogant”; below it, one should be “sorrowful.” The level of the standard is directly related to one’s cognitive ability.

When a unit or a collective truly reaches the “sorrowful” stage, apart from stepping out in anger and striving to catch up, what is more important is the strategy and tactics adopted to achieve that “victory.” Applied to enterprises, this means drastic reforms.

Just as “Chengfa” initially implemented a per-capita 180-yuan strategy, which not only failed to advance the enterprise but instead caused more serious consequences. Therefore, a “sorrowful army” does not necessarily “win.” If the strategy and tactics of the “sorrowful army” are improperly applied, it may end up on a “dead end.”

Admittedly, a “sorrowful army” can easily perform at a level that ordinary entities or individuals cannot achieve. But are we a “sorrowful army”?

The documentary includes the saying, “Take history as a mirror, and one can know the rise and fall.” However, our young Hongye employees have no “history” to use as a mirror. Therefore, we do not consider ourselves a “sorrowful army.” We, the young generation of Hongye people, are the “inheritors and pioneers” of Hongye. We will not make the cry of “sorrow”; we will only sound the bugle call of charge.

Therefore, we are not a “sorrowful army.” We are not filled with “grief and indignation.” What we possess is the courage to forge ahead, the determination to overcome all difficulties and obstacles, and the pride of dedicating our youth to Hongye and the nation.

However, people often “thrive in adversity and perish in prosperity.” When the situation is excellent, one forgets the hardships of the past. In fierce market competition, like “sailing against the current, either you forge ahead or you fall behind.” We cannot wait for “sorrow” to arrive; we must strive to be the trendsetters of the era, walk ahead of the market, and let the “sorrowful army” remain sorrowful forever.

If we must say we are a sorrowful army, then we are a mighty force that advances with the mindset of a sorrowful army but the posture of an arrogant army, because victory has no end.
